The Route
Lhasa to Everest and back
Lhasa → Nyingchi → Basongcuo → Lhasa → Yamdrok Lake → Shigatse → Everest Base Camp → Shigatse → Namtso → Lhasa
This is a small-group overland journey, not a hiking-focused tour. Groups run with 2–16 travellers, with English-speaking or bilingual guide service available. Foreign travellers can join, and the required Tibet travel permits are arranged as part of the trip.

Suggested Itinerary
Twelve days across the plateau
Day 1 — Arrive in Lhasa
Airport or train station pickup and time to acclimatise to the altitude.
Day 2 — Lhasa to Nyingchi
Travel east toward Nyingchi and visit Kading Valley.
Day 3 — Nyingchi to Basongcuo
Cross Sejila Mountain Pass, explore Lulang Forest and continue to Basongcuo.
Day 4 — Basongcuo to Lhasa
Explore Basongcuo, its island temple and nearby village before returning to Lhasa.
Day 5 — Lhasa Culture
Experience Tibetan culture and visit Sera Monastery.
Day 6 — Highlights of Lhasa
Visit the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street.
Day 7 — Lhasa to Shigatse
Travel via Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier to Shigatse.
Day 8 — Shigatse to Everest Base Camp
Cross high-altitude Himalayan passes, visit Rongbuk Monastery and continue to Everest Base Camp.
Day 9 — Everest to Shigatse
Leave Everest and return to Shigatse through dramatic mountain scenery.
Day 10 — Shigatse to Lhasa
Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery before returning to Lhasa.
Day 11 — Namtso Lake
Day trip from Lhasa to Namtso, one of Tibet's great sacred lakes.
Day 12 — Depart Lhasa
Transfer to the airport or train station.
Before You Go
Good to Know
- This is a high-altitude journey, with several destinations above 4,000 metres.
- The first day in Lhasa is intentionally kept relaxed to help travellers acclimatise.
- Foreign travellers require Tibet travel permits. These are arranged as part of the trip.
- Everest Base Camp accommodation is basic compared with city hotels.
- Weather and road conditions in Tibet can occasionally require itinerary adjustments.
- Namtso may become inaccessible during severe winter weather, in which case an alternative excursion will be arranged.
